Calgary’s foundation rests heavily on giving back to the community — supporting one another is just what we do. Whether through scholarships, community programs or resources, Calgarians continue to uplift everyone who calls this city home.

Now, more than ever — with rising costs, high rates of food insecurity and complex social issues — helping others is vital for a stronger, healthier community. Luckily, many businesses, organizations and individuals continue to answer the call.

Read on to learn about some of the groups giving back, ensuring Calgarians continue to have the support they need to thrive.

85 Years of Impact: Building a Brighter Calgary Together

For more than eight decades, United Way of Calgary and Area has united the community to give back.

When longtime Calgary donor Sharon Siebens made a landmark $10 million commitment to United Way of Calgary and Area’s Planet Youth Calgary initiative, she wasn’t looking for recognition. She wanted to spark change.

“I’ve seen firsthand the difference we can make when we come together as a community,” says Siebens. “When we work together, we can accomplish so much more than we can alone.”

Her gift marked the largest in United Way’s history and is fueling its boldest initiative yet — Planet Youth Calgary, a proven prevention model aimed at reducing substance use among young people and creating healthier environments for them to grow up in.

For United Way president and CEO Karen Young, Siebens’s leadership is a powerful example of what can happen when community and generosity come together. “When I see community leaders like Sharon step forward, I’m reminded of the incredible capacity our city has to create lasting change when we work together,” she says.

This historic commitment shows what’s possible when Calgarians unite around urgent needs — something the organization has been doing for 85 years.

A legacy rooted in community

Since 1940, United Way has invested more than $1.4 billion locally, connecting people to critical mental health supports, helping families achieve stability and strengthening safe, healthy relationships. Today, with one in four Calgarians struggling to meet their basic needs, that role has never been more vital.

Initiatives like Community Hubs and All In for Youth (AIFY) have played a pivotal role in strengthening the city. Community Hubs are welcoming neighbourhood spaces created by the community, for the community. They have been used by more than half a million Calgarians since 2017. For a newcomer family, their local hub can become more than a place to learn English — it can be a place where they make friends, build confidence and feel at home in Calgary.

Through tutoring, mentorship and financial support, AIFY has boosted Calgary’s high school completion rates by helping students overcome barriers to graduation. One student described the program as, “a reason I believed I could finish school when I thought about giving up.”

Planet Youth Calgary, United Way’s biggest initiative yet, anchors its emerging Children and Youth strategy, creating an integrated pathway of supports and services to guide children from their earliest years into adulthood. This work is made possible through strong partnerships with agencies like YMCA Calgary, Trellis Society and Miskanawah Community Services Association.

“Through Planet Youth, we’re helping to build healthier, more resilient communities where children have the resources, connections and support they need to thrive,” affirms Siebens. “In this way, the work isn’t just about today — it’s about shaping a stronger Calgary for years to come.”

Each of these initiatives shares a common thread: collaboration. What sets United Way apart is its ability to convene partners — a strength that matters more than ever as Calgary faces increasingly complex social issues. By uniting donors, agencies, government and businesses, United Way creates lasting solutions that no one could achieve alone.

Women leading change

As United Way marks its 85th anniversary, it also celebrates the leadership of women who are shaping Calgary’s future. Siebens is one example, building on a lifetime of giving grounded in the belief that community is strongest when everyone steps up when they can.

“Women bring a unique combination of vision, empathy and determination to the work of strengthening communities. Across our city, I see how women build pathways of hope and opportunity to empower others,” says Siebens. “I hope that by sharing my experiences, other women feel encouraged to contribute in ways that matter to them and help shape a stronger, healthier Calgary for everyone.”

A look to the future

For Young, the past eight decades are only the beginning. “Looking ahead, I see United Way leaning even more into innovation and collaboration,” she says. “We need to keep listening and adapting, so Calgarians can count on us when life gets hard. That’s how we’ll create real, lasting change for future generations.”

As United Way celebrates its 85th year, its vision is clear: to continue building stronger, more resilient communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Building Healthier Communities

Longtime donor Kathy Prosser demonstrates the profound impact of giving.

For more than 45 years, Discovery House, a Calgary-based charity organization, has been helping families leave domestic violence and rebuild their lives. Funded in part by the government, Discovery House relies on community donors to support approximately one-third of its services.

“Helping families isn’t possible without support from the community, and Calgarians are generous,” says Anita Hofer, director of strategy and communications at Discovery House.

It’s thanks to generous Calgarians like Kathy Prosser that Discovery House can offer housing and specialized programs for women and children. Prosser has been giving to Discovery House for 15 years, ensuring that the organization can give back to the community. “It’s a community building community,” she says. “They’re doing a job that’s necessary, and it’s strengthening Calgary as a whole.”

With her philanthropic interests focused on youth in particular, Prosser donates to Discovery House because of the organization’s long-term impact on children. “The wrap-around support allows families to grow and stabilize, and for the kids to just be kids,” she says. “It’s a chance for a healthier community. It’s a chance for kids to grow up and be good parents themselves. It benefits everybody; it’s a full cycle.”

Donors like Prosser trust Discovery House to help families heal, grow and discover their next chapter. It takes a village, and Prosser and other Calgarians are doing their part, supporting organizations like Discovery House, helping create a better Calgary.

The community boasts access to multiple nearby shopping centres, such as the Aspen Landing Shopping Centre, scenic mountain views and family-friendly parks. Rangeview: Where Good Things Grow

Residents will thrive in Calgary’s first garden-to-table community.

Many communities claim they are a place to grow, but none follow through on the promise quite like Rangeview, located in southeast Calgary. As the city’s first garden-to-table community, Rangeview offers a unique connection to the land and the neighbourhood, all within the city limits.

Rangeview’s distinctive approach to community and authentic living was recently recognized at the 2024 Calgary BILD Awards, where Rangeview took home the coveted Community of the Year award.

Meet me in the garden

Officially opened in September 2021 by Section23 Developments, Rangeview fully embraces the ideas of agricultural urbanism, which integrates agriculture and food production into urban planning. Initiatives include homeowners’ association-managed community gardens, orchards, greenhouses and common areas aimed at fostering social connection and creating spaces for neighbours to meet, gather and connect.

“When people look for a community to call home, they’re searching for more than just a house — they want a place where they feel a genuine sense of belonging, safety and connection. A friendly, welcoming atmosphere with opportunities to build relationships through events, shared spaces or neighbourhood gatherings,” says Sarah Fehr, marketing manager at Section23 Developments.

A rich history

Rangeview has been 100 years in the making. The land now known as Rangeview was once ranched and farmed by the Ollerenshaw family. The Ollerenshaws first settled in the area in 1923 and are also the founders of Section23 Developments.

True to its rural roots, the community has maintained an agricultural aesthetic by incorporating numerous styles of farmhouse architecture into its development. The central community hub, known as the Harvest Hall, will be home to a variety of year-round programs and events, including a seasonal farmers’ market.

“Communities like Rangeview are on the forefront of reconnecting and educating people about the growth, processing and preparation of the food we eat, creating a more vibrant and prosperous community and a more resilient and culturally rich food system that can be passed down for generations,” says Fehr.

Homes for all

With home types including front attached garage homes, laned homes, townhomes and paired homes from award-winning builders, Rangeview offers a variety of family-friendly options.

When complete, nearly 20 per cent of the community’s land will be open space. These public areas will include a constructed wetland, naturalized parks, neighbourhood parks, creative playground areas, schools and sports fields. Plentiful pathways and a west-east spine of green space that runs through the heart of the community round out the numerous invitations to the outdoors.

“Just as small-town Alberta communities have always been made stronger by the connections between neighbours and families, life in Rangeview includes the luxury of truly getting to know — and enjoy — the people around us. We’re rekindling an old-fashioned sense of community spirit that will make modern life infinitely happier,” says Fehr.

Fireside: For Every Stage of Life

The Fireside Homeowners’ Association and Calbridge Developments invest in active living with a new skatepark and vibrant community vision.

As the town of Cochrane continues to grow, the community of Fireside stands out for its blend of small-town charm, mountain views and a strong commitment to outdoor living.

Originally launched in 2011, Fireside was carefully chosen by Calbridge Developments for its proximity to the mountains, extensive trail systems and the character the Cochrane area brings to the table.

Calbridge Developments has spent nearly 15 years shaping the Fireside community into a destination where nature, family and connections are at the forefront.

“We understood that Fireside had everything we needed to make it an exceptional place to live,” says Edmundo Azuaje, manager of marketing and communications at Calbridge Group. “There is no other place that highlights all that Alberta has to offer better than Fireside.”

Fast forward to today, Fireside has become a vibrant hub. Residents benefit from two schools, a growing network of pathways and parks, commercial amenities and a diverse range of housing options for every stage of life.

Skateboarding Together

This fall, the community will unveil its newest feature — a skatepark designed specifically for beginners and families with young children. Spearheaded by the Fireside Homeowners’ Association in partnership with Calbridge Developments, this is Cochrane’s second skatepark and the only one built for beginners, filling a much-needed gap.

“The only existing skatepark in town is geared toward more advanced users,” says Azuaje. “This new skatepark is beginner-friendly and provides a safe, welcoming space for people of all ages to get involved in the sport, which has really been growing in popularity.”

The skatepark, which is set to debut this October, will be located in Fireside’s existing central park between the playground and the pump track, creating a dynamic zone for kids, teens and families to gather and be active.

“We’ve had residents tell us how excited they are to have a skatepark so close to home, and the Town of Cochrane has been incredibly supportive,” says Azuaje. “It’s been great to see the enthusiasm.”

A Future in Fireside

Looking ahead, Calbridge plans to continue enhancing the community with additional green spaces, new playgrounds and a large off-leash dog park set to open in the coming years. The development of Fireside will be ongoing for the next six to eight years, and the vision remains centred on building a connected, livable community.

Housing options in Fireside reflect an inclusive approach, with current offerings ranging from all-inclusive street townhomes starting in the $500s for first-time buyers and downsizers, to larger single-family homes from the $600s, perfect for growing families.

“Fireside welcomes those who love adventure, regardless of their budget,” Azuaje says. “We’ve always offered a little bit of everything, and that’s part of what makes this place so special.”

With bold visions like the new skatepark and a commitment to constant improvement, Calbridge Developments is not just building a neighbourhood; it is building an active, healthy community.

Mountain Living in Altitude

Homebuyers find attainable luxury in one of Canmore’s newest communities.

West of Calgary in the heart of the Bow Valley, Altitude at Three Sisters Mountain Village is redefining what it means to own a home in Canmore.

Developed by award-winning home builder Logel Homes, this new community pairs stunning Rocky Mountain scenery with urban convenience, delivering an unbeatable blend of lifestyle, luxury and affordability.

Located on Cascade Drive, less than 10 minutes southeast of downtown Canmore, and next to the emerging Gateway retail district, residents at Altitude enjoy the convenience and proximity of an IGA grocery store, future restaurants, shops and services, offering all the essentials without sacrificing the 360-degree vistas of the Rocky Mountains.

“Over many years, our customers have told us that A+ locations are key when deciding to move into a condo,” says Reilly LePage, director of sales and marketing at Logel Homes. “Altitude continues this initiative by being steps from the Gateway amenity area. It’s the perfect combination of mountain escape without having to compromise on amenities and, ultimately, convenience.”

Attainable mountain living

With real estate values in Canmore often out of reach, and continuing to climb, Altitude represents an attractive, attainable investment.

“As Gateway is under development, it provides immense future value to those purchasing now,” affirms LePage.

At Altitude, Logel Homes delivers affordable ownership with flexible floor plans starting in the mid-$400s.

“Rather than offer solely 1,000-square-foot-plus floor plans, which is common in Canmore, we have floor plans ranging from 476 to 1,398 square feet with over a dozen plans to choose from,” LePage says.

Customization is a key feature at Altitude. With more than 2,000 design options and dedicated appointments with interior designers, buyers can personalize their home from top to bottom.

“This level of customization is typically seen in custom homes with high price tags,” says LePage. “Homeowners can make their home their own, putting their stamp on every corner of their condo.”

Convenience for all

Altitude’s diverse selection of floor plans caters to full-time residents, weekenders and everyone in between. Options include one- to three-bedroom layouts, many with thoughtful extras, like oversized balconies to enjoy the mountain views.

“We can satisfy the needs and wants of pretty much anyone looking for a home,” LePage says. “Some key factors include underground parking and storage, solar-ready capabilities, EV charging stations and vaulted ceilings on the top floor.”

Optional finishes include full-quartz kitchens, gas ranges, stained oak cabinetry, engineered hardwood and elegant bathrooms, meticulously curated to feel modern yet timeless.

“No two condos will look the same, and that’s hugely important for our customers’ enjoyment and resale values,” says LePage.

Nature also plays a starring role in Altitude’s design with Nordic-alpine architecture and a municipal park connecting to Canmore’s scenic trail system. Residents also enjoy access to a private spa, including a sauna, fire pit and hot tub.

Early sales success has been strong, which LePage says reflects the project’s broad appeal.

“We’ve seen a mix of our typical buyer types — first-time homebuyers, right-sizers and recreational property owners, which is a huge win for us and the Canmore community,” he says.

For those seeking luxury, lifestyle and location without compromise, Altitude at Three Sisters Mountain Village is a rare opportunity to live and play in a mountain paradise.

Adventure Lives in Revelstoke

Unveiling the next chapter in elevated alpine living at Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

There’s a new energy in Revelstoke, B.C. that speaks to bold vision, timeless beauty and a community redefining mountain living.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort (RMR), a world-class ski destination located just 10 minutes south of downtown Revelstoke, is ushering in an exciting new era of thoughtfully crafted, adventure-rich real estate. Launched in April 2025, RMR is offering exclusive pre-sales of limited product in the Benchlands Residences and Mountain Road Estates Neighbourhoods — and this is just the beginning. With a full launch planned for December, this next phase brings a bespoke collection of townhomes, duplexes, condos and estate lots, all conceived to complement Revelstoke’s rugged elegance and four-season lifestyle.

Located four and a half hours west of Calgary, Revelstoke has long drawn outdoor enthusiasts with its legendary powder, epic terrain and authentic mountain-town charm. The resort is now attracting global attention as one of North America’s premier year-round alpine destinations.

“Revelstoke Mountain Resort was always envisioned as more than a ski destination — it’s a living, breathing mountain community,” Dominik Hubaczek, senior real estate specialist with RMR. “This is the first real estate release from the resort in over a decade, and we’ve timed it with purpose. Interest has never been stronger.”

The Benchlands Residences and Mountain Road Estates embrace mountain-modern architecture inspired by Scandinavian minimalism and alpine authenticity. Oversized windows and expansive outdoor spaces frame breathtaking views, while natural materials anchor the homes to their surroundings.

Benchlands Residences, adjacent to the Cabot Revelstoke golf course set to open in 2027, offers privacy and a serene forest setting. Slopeside Mountain Road Estates delivers convenient resort access with panoramic vistas. Both neighbourhoods offer access to curated wellness and concierge services, short-term rental zoning and full-service property management through the resort.

Lifestyle meets legacy at the Revelstoke Mountain Club

Homeowners are invited to join the Revelstoke Mountain Club, a private, members-only alpine and social club that blends exclusivity with intergenerational connection. From ski valet and private lockers to a full-service club with pool, wellness and dining, it offers unparalleled experiences and intimacy.

“What truly sets the Club apart is its holistic approach to lifestyle. Membership extends for three generations, enabling families to build a shared legacy. The Club isn’t just about winter — it’s an all-season haven,” says Hubaczek.

Members enjoy personalized adventures, priority booking at Cabot Revelstoke and Selkirk Tangiers Heli Skiing, as well as summer experiences like tennis, pickleball and padel courts at Williamson Lake. Paddleboarding, kayaking, hiking and campfire evenings are a further benefit at a private wilderness lake camp location.

The future of mountain living

Over the next decade, RMR’s vision includes vibrant new neighbourhoods, additional hotels, on-mountain amenities, expanded snowmaking, ski terrain, lifts and biking infrastructure, an enhanced resort village with retail and dining options, the Cabot Revelstoke golf course, plus a premium Nordic spa.

“There’s a sense of momentum — not just in the real estate market, but in the resort’s overall evolution,” says Hubaczek. “For buyers, it’s an opportunity to be part of something truly extraordinary.”

Pre-sales are now open. Book a private consultation with RMR’s real estate team and visit revelstokemountainresort.com/own.

Innovation is all around us. From supporting the gravity-defying developments happening in the aerospace ecosystem and evolving holistic prostate cancer care to optimizing aging in senior residences and care homes through research and award-winning design, organizations in the city lead the way in forward-thinking to make critical advancements. This incredible work is what makes Calgary an innovation centre to be envied.

Bringing Innovation to Continuing Care

The Brenda Strafford Foundation’s research and innovation centre focuses on creating impact to support societal issues like aging well.

Foundation (BSF) has been guided by its founding principle — giving back to the community to optimize well-being. Today, it continues to be a leader of innovation in the community through its senior living facilities and domestic violence shelter in the city, along with its international health programs at clinics in Jamaica, Haiti and Dominica. As the foundation enters its second half century, it’s redoubling its efforts to help solve some of society’s most pressing issues.

Research and innovation

At the core of that mission is the foundation’s Dr. Barrie Strafford Centre for Learning Innovation and Quality (CLIQ). The centre opened in 2023 as a dedicated research and innovation arm to support the foundation’s various initiatives and facilities. CLIQ partners with academics, research institutes and businesses to drive innovation across the sectors BSF provides services for, including aging care, prevention of domestic violence and international healthcare.

“What makes CLIQ different from other organizations is our focus on innovation,” says Catherine Laing, CLIQ’s vice-president. “We are truly the only group in Alberta, and probably even in Canada, that has such a large resource dedicated to innovation and research for these sectors.”

Developing best practices

The foundation operates four care homes in Calgary and one in Okotoks, allowing CLIQ to not just undertake research in an academic sense, but also to directly apply innovative ideas and technology that improve quality of life at those homes. The introduction of drum circles as an activity at BSF care homes, for example, has provided numerous benefits to residents and staff. Laing and her team have studied the effects of drum circles and found they have helped foster a sense of community and help calm residents. CLIQ has since published a drumming toolkit with research findings, along with resources and tips for other organizations to use.

“Not only are we bringing this information forward for best practice for our sites, but we share this information with other organizations across Canada, and we’ve built a very good ecosystem that we share these best practices with,” says Laing.

Coming up with solutions

CLIQ has also partnered with Best Buy Canada on a project centred around smart condos and integrating technology into the living spaces of independent seniors to help them age in place longer. Laing points out that as the proportion of people residing in assisted living facilities or receiving in-home care goes up, questions of how best to support Canada’s aging population are more important than ever. That’s precisely why The Brenda Strafford Foundation carries out the work that it does — to help come up with effective solutions.

Catherine Laing

“We know that the population is aging, and that we won’t have enough spaces in continuing care by 2030,” says Laing. “The population is looking for innovation; they’re looking for ways they can stay in their home longer, and how they can be as healthy as possible, for as long as possible.”

Continually Providing Improved Patient Care

The Prostate Cancer Centre offers innovative and evolving comprehensive healthcare, all under one roof.

For the last 25 years, the Prostate Cancer Centre (PCC) has been one of Calgary’s best-kept secrets. Well, the secret is out. Located adjacent to the Rockyview General Hospital, the PCC is where prostate cancer patients receive world-class care and attention — and its vision to provide comprehensive and holistic care continues to shape the PCC into one of the most enviable urological care centres in the world.

The PCC has long prioritized bold forward-thinking when it comes to patient care, but three years ago, CEO Jeff Davison took that commitment further when he joined the PCC. A local businessman and former city councillor, Davison didn’t have a background in healthcare prior to joining the PCC, but he came with a passion for innovation and problem-solving as well as infectious positive energy.

“I’ve always found I’ve been good at bringing people together, finding common ground and getting things done,” Davison says. “There were some large aspirations here at the PCC. And I said, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’”

And so they have. Davison’s leadership reinvigorated an already enthusiastic team, all passionate about developing new initiatives expanding the possibilities of men’s healthcare. “Our board had a vision, and Jeff was able to actually make things happen,” says Stacey Smith, the centre’s director of fund development. “Innovation is not just about the ideas. Creating that environment here at the Prostate Cancer Centre has allowed the rest of us to be creative and think differently as well.”

Centre expansion and improved access to life-saving care

Since men’s urological health can carry stigma, creating a welcoming centre where men feel confident coming in for treatment has been a key part of the PCC’s game plan. Last year, the centre opened a 9,000-square-foot expansion to make room for new prehabilitation and mental health services as well as the medical treatment, aftercare and educational pieces the centre has built its reputation on.

“Every urologist in the city is in our office. EFW radiology is in the office. All the programming pieces are here, and the operating room is across the street in the hospital,” Davison says. “Having the ability to be a one-stop shop is incredibly unique.”

Add to that, one element that is intentionally not physically present is the MAN VAN, the PCC’s successful mobile testing unit. Since early detection is crucial in prostate cancer prognosis, the PCC launched its third MAN VAN last year to better reach men across Calgary and rural Alberta to administer prostate-specific antigen (PSA) diagnosis tests.

Groundbreaking research

While it’s rare for regional care facilities to engage in research, the PCC participates in 20 to 25 clinical trials at any given time because trials can lead to new drugs and therapies. To further position itself as a leader in the prostate cancer space, the centre recently formed a partnership with the University of Calgary to undertake new scientific research initiatives under the PCC banner. “We are a place of excellence for urology care; this was the next step,” Davison says. “We want to establish a footprint that says we’re doing basic science as well as clinical research to offer wraparound patient care.”

A world-class prehabilitation centre

The centre’s expansion was largely designed to accommodate its new prehabilitation or “prehab” centre. The prehab program — intended to get patients in the best possible shape prior to surgery — includes mental health supports as well as physical exercise sessions such as yoga as well as the introduction to other healthy habits. Davison believes the PCC initiative is the most comprehensive prehab program in the world, presenting an excellent opportunity to collect data on patient outcomes. “We’re piloting a program that will be applicable to other forms of cancer as well,” Davison says. “This could be game changing in healthcare.”

The future of personalized care

Davison and his team also have their eyes on using emerging technology to ensure treatment plans can meet patients’ individualized needs. While these measures haven’t been implemented just yet, PCC experts are investigating artificial intelligence (AI) applications to work with genetic sequencing to develop predictive treatment to improve outcomes and quality of life.

“We’ve learned so much about the world in the last decade, in terms of genetics and AI tools,” Davison says. “We’d be remiss if we weren’t always looking to the future. We’re always looking at how we can continually do better.”

Setting the Pace in Aerospace

Innovate Calgary is giving the city’s aerospace sector a shot in the wing with its new innovation hub.

As Calgary’s thriving aerospace sector continues to expand, a new initiative is helping to turbocharge that growth with premium facilities and millions of dollars in investment. Led by Innovate Calgary, the Aerospace Innovation Hub aims to foster and attract innovation and start-ups in the aerospace sector through collaborative partnerships with the Calgary Airport Authority, University of Calgary, WestJet and Chapter.AI.

Start-up, up and away

Launched in spring of 2024, the hub recruits and onboards start-up companies and surrounds them with supports to maximize their chances of success. These start-ups develop a vast variety of innovative solutions from enhancing runway safety and wildlife management using unmanned aerial vehicles to sustainable aviation fuels and satellite technologies.

“The Aerospace Innovation Hub accelerates Calgary’s aerospace sector by uniting start-ups, industry leaders, and University of Calgary research and expertise,” says John Wilson, president and CEO of Innovate Calgary.

Cutting-edge toolkit

At the heart of the hub are tools such as prototyping labs for start-up companies to build and test their designs. The state-of-the-art labs include over $5 million in equipment such as a waterjet cutter, a metal 3D printer and precision milling tools. Incubated companies also receive support from a roster of over 100 advisors, discounts through Innovate Calgary’s partners and a community of like-minded start-ups.

The hub also hosts the Aerospace Accelerator Program aimed at fostering the next generation of Calgary-based aerospace businesses by offering $200,000 of non-dilutive capital and a robust curriculum. The program will fund six placements in total over three years.

“With cutting-edge labs, strategic partnerships and a dynamic accelerator program, we’re driving innovation, economic growth and real-world solutions that position Calgary as a global aerospace leader,” says Wilson.

Whether you’re an empty-nester looking to downsize, a first-time homebuyer ready to stake your claim in real estate or an investor looking for a new property, Calgary’s condo and townhome market delivers. Singles, couples and families are all discovering how condos and townhomes can meet all of their needs in several different communities, in and around the city. Read on to see how one of these homes could be your next one.

Elevated Townhome Living

With private elevators and rooftop patios, GUILD Townhomes offer luxury and comfort in the heart of University District.

Built where quiet luxury and convenience meet, GUILD townhomes by Crystal Creek Homes is one of the latest additions to the unique and burgeoning community of University District. Featuring 40 units spread across six buildings, the GUILD development includes two- and three-bedroom townhomes that place a concerted emphasis on elegance and comfort.

Convenience and privacy

The build-up-not-out nature of traditional townhomes often means lots of stairs, which aren’t always convenient or practical for empty nesters or retirees looking to downsize as they approach their golden years. GUILD addresses this dilemma head on, with a simple solution providing truly elevated townhome living. A private elevator in each and every unit makes the entire home easily accessible at the push of a button.

“With the private garage leading you to your private elevator, you have immediate access to your home. No need to shuffle through large communal areas such as big parkades, lobbies and long hallways,” says Crystal Creek area sales manager Andrea Irwin.

Part of a vibrant community

Set in the bustling and ultra-walkable University District, GUILD Townhomes are located just steps from a grocery store, several restaurants, a bakery, wine boutique, coffee shop, multiple exercise studios and even a movie theatre. Upon completion, the easily accessible University District will feature approximately 7,100 residential units, 15,000 residents and 300,000 sq. ft. of retail along its main street.

All of the GUILD two- and three-bedroom floorplans come in at a minimum of 2,000 square feet and feature meticulously designed interiors that prioritize spacious layouts and high-end finishes, all combining to provide an indelible sense of home. These townhomes feel roomy and complete, making the downsizing transition seamless. Each unit boasts extended outdoor living spaces with main-floor balconies and rooftop patios, the perfect places to unwind while overlooking the vibrant and growing community.

“GUILD provides the perfect balance of lifestyle needs for our homebuyers,” says Irwin. “The majority of them are downsizers and empty nesters who are looking for the convenience of the lock-and-leave lifestyle offered by condo living but still want the space, security and the feeling of a single-family home.”

Sustainably built by a trusted builder

The development is also expected to achieve BUILT GREEN Gold certification, an acknowledgment of GUILD’s use of sustainable building practices and emphasis on energy efficiency. Combined with the vast number of modern amenities and necessities located right in the community, GUILD offers impressive access to environmentally conscious living.

With more than 20 years of experience building homes across Calgary, Crystal Creek prides itself on well-built homes that combine beauty and comfort to provide an elegant and seamless living experience. GUILD at University District offers a unique opportunity to experience elevated townhome living in one of Calgary’s most complete and exciting new communities.

Featuring open-concept layouts that make these townhomes feel bigger than typical multifamily homes, the units combine modern designs and quality interior finishes, the perfect marriage of style and function.

Low-maintenance living

“One of the biggest advantages is low-maintenance living — our condo fees cover exterior maintenance, landscaping and snow removal, meaning homeowners can leave their space without worrying about upkeep,” says area manager Veliny Vaz. “It’s perfect for busy professionals and growing families who want a larger home that fits their lifestyle without added hassles.”

Each unit features a private recessed balcony allowing you to enjoy the fresh air or barbeque a burger on a warm summer day. An attached double garage also provides secure parking (for even a full-sized truck!) and extra storage.

Passing the yell test

A cost-effective entry into homeownership, the Midtown community is centrally located in Airdrie, providing easy access to parks, shopping and dining, all within minutes of your doorstep. And, every The Towns home is “yell test” approved, meaning extra care has been taken to help ensure privacy and peace among neighbours.

Igniting the Potential in Youth

Calgary Flames Grade 6 YMCA Membership alumni share their experiences of newfound confidence, courage and independence.

Trying something new can feel daunting and may mean stepping outside your comfort zone. However, the experience, growth and confidence that comes from doing so make it worthwhile. The chance to try new things and take healthy risks in a safe place is exactly what the Calgary Flames Grade 6 YMCA Membership program provides.

Since 2013, the Calgary Flames Foundation has partnered with YMCA Calgary and annually committed $250,000 to support the ongoing Calgary Flames Grade 6 YMCA program. The program has provided over 37,000 youth a place to play, develop healthy habits and practice independence through activities, sports and engagement opportunities.

“Through this program, I was given the opportunity to improve my leadership skills, and I was empowered by amazing mentors,” says Maxwell Sabau, a 2024 program alumnus. “Today, I’m a program ambassador, and I get to share my experience and encourage other kids to be adventurous and push themselves out of their comfort zone.”

Loads of benefits

The membership provides grade six students in Calgary with full access to all six YMCA Calgary locations, and discounts on programs and day camps. This allows students to explore what the YMCA offers, and take part in sports activities, special events, fun tournaments and leadership opportunities. Youth can challenge themselves throughout the year, make lasting friendships and try new experiences. Most importantly, it’s a time to grow and develop life-long skills.

“Being pushed outside of your comfort zone is the most tried-and-true way to discover your strengths, hidden interests and waiting opportunities,” says Naqeeyah Karachiwala, a 2022 program alumna. “By doing this, you will naturally lean towards new challenges, and confidence will strongly root itself inside your mentality. [The Grade 6 program] is the time to truly shine and be yourself.”

Ongoing opportunities

Even after the membership ends, the experiences and learned skills continue to lead to new opportunities.

After graduating from the Grade 6 membership, Karachiwala and fellow alumna Kira Syro joined a leadership program offered through the YMCA. The program lets alumni plan and host events for new grade sixers to engage in hands-on volunteer opportunities, including sorting donations at the Calgary Food Bank, as well as learn skills in public speaking, event planning and what it means to be a leader.

“There have been many positive changes in my life that were influenced by my experiences in the [Grade 6] program, but I believe the biggest change is my confidence in myself,” affirms Syro. “I believe I can achieve my goals in everything I do. The leadership program at the YMCA [taught me] invaluable skills.”

The 13-month membership is open to all grade six students in Calgary. Head to any YMCA with a school ID or grade five report card to sign up for a transformative year.

Giving Back to Community Through a Trusted Foundation

Calgary Foundation helps people direct their giving based on what the community needs.

Since 1955, organizations, businesses and individuals have been giving back to the community through the Calgary Foundation.

Cheryl James, a retired lawyer who worked in the estate-planning sector, is one of those people. In 1994, she joined the Foundation as a volunteer on the Community Grants committee. Shortly after, she was invited to join the board and remained a member until 2006.

“What intrigued me was they don’t focus on one area of philanthropy. They grant across the community,” says James. “It gave me a tremendous window into what was happening in the charitable sector in Calgary.”

Having served as a board member and volunteer for over a decade, James fully understands and believes in the Foundation’s granting process. That’s why, when she was still working, she advised clients about Calgary Foundation as an option for philanthropic giving, as it ultimately helps to generate a greater community impact.

“They’re a solid organization that’s very trustworthy and has tremendous knowledge to offer on what the need is in the community, in any sector,” she says.

Flexible ways to give

When she left the board, James set up a Field of Interest Fund through Calgary Foundation’s Community Fund. A Field of Interest Fund entrusts the Foundation to disburse the funds to a general area of interest, like children, youth and family, which is what James chose.

“I have such confidence in the granting process that I trust who they’ve selected, and that’s why I did it,” she says.

Calgary Foundation works with many local organizations and civic partners to identify community priorities, and with its expert knowledge of the charitable sector and Calgary’s evolving needs and wants, it grants funds accordingly. The result is a powerful system of generosity and support that resonates throughout the city.

For those who want their dollars to go to specific charitable organizations, they can opt for a Donor Advised Fund, which allows them to make granting decisions. There are also several other donor options to accommodate all kinds of giving, regardless of how much money you have or how you wish to distribute it.

“Serving all areas of need, Calgary Foundation supports the interests of donors,” says James. “It’s not for a particular class; it can carry out a legacy and philanthropic contributions for anyone. It doesn’t have to be huge. It can be built up over time.”

A trusted and knowledgeable foundation

For nearly 70 years, the Foundation has garnered a reputation of trust and care, built upon a diverse team of volunteers and staff who are experts in the community and know where the needs for charitable contributions are.

“There’s so much contribution by the community, whether it’s on the investment advisory side or granting side, that makes it a very safe place to place your philanthropic dollars,” James says. “When you look at the board and the composition of the volunteer committees, there’s such strong community support on a volunteer basis to share that expertise.”

James continues to encourage friends to consider Calgary Foundation as an option for their gift planning journeys. Soon, she’ll be back volunteering for the Foundation because she’s missed seeing “people do incredible things to build our community.”

Celebrating 50 Years of Impactful Theatre

Alberta Theatre Projects’ Golden Hearts campaign invests in the future of the arts in Calgary with the support of local businesses.

Through 50 seasons, Alberta Theatre Projects (ATP) has brought communities together to celebrate the best local and global talent in theatre. As ATP looks ahead to the next half-century, it is launching a two-year, $2.5 million campaign to continue its mission of enriching the lives of theatre enthusiasts and supporting the next generation of theatre artists.

The Golden Hearts Campaign is a chance to invest in ATP and become a champion for the future of arts in Calgary. Three Golden Hearts businesses share their reasons for championing the vital role of arts and creativity in the city.

Golden Hearts Champion: Strategic Group

Since its founding in 2001, Strategic Group has maintained an unwavering dedication to actively giving back to the community through local and charitable organizations. Strategic Group supports the arts by creating spaces that bring people together through an artistic lens.

“ATP represents what’s best about the arts — innovation, collaboration and community impact,” says Riaz Mamdani, CEO and founder of Strategic Group. “By supporting the arts, we’re not only contributing to the cultural fabric of Calgary, but also helping to build a more compassionate and thoughtful society.”

Golden Hearts Champion: Lions Gate Construction

When it comes to supporting the next generation of artists and the arts, it was an easy “yes” for Armin Karame. He’s the owner and general manager of Lions Gate Construction and a successful actor with roles in Heartland and Debris. With his values in supporting the community and the arts, becoming a Golden Hearts champion was a natural next step.

“The arts, theatre and ATP are part of our city’s history. By supporting the arts and being involved, we send the message that it’s an important component of Calgary, not just to those living here, but to everyone around the world,” affirms Karame.

Golden Hearts Champion: Stormont Capital

Backed by over 25 years of financial advisory and investment experience, Stuart Parnell, CFA and managing director of Stormont Capital, understands the importance and value of investing in local businesses and the artistic organizations that fuel Calgary’s spirit.

“A vibrant arts community contributes to the quality of life in any city, and Calgary is no exception,” says Parnell. “ATP represents one of the cornerstones of the Calgary arts community [and] the Golden Hearts campaign is a celebration of 50 years of excellence. Calgary’s business community has a long history of supporting the broader arts community, and we are proud to be part of that heritage.”

Another 50 years of theatrical excellence

ATP’s upcoming milestone 50th anniversary — the 2024-25 season and Golden Hearts campaign — is the perfect opportunity to support ATP and its artistic future. Subscribe for the whole season or buy tickets to attend captivating theatre shows with lineups showcasing the best of local and international talents, kicking off with The Seafarer, starring Canadian superstar Paul Gross. Join ATP’s community of like-minded theatre lovers and supporters, and become a Golden Hearts champion to ensure the next 50 years at ATP continue to be vibrant and rich.

A Philanthropic Approach to Patient Care

55 years in, EFW Radiology continues to support patients and healthcare professionals with cutting-edge tools, education and lasting community impact.

EFW Radiology began modestly in 1969 as the Foothills Association of Radiologists and soon after opened its first community clinic. Since then, EFW Radiology has grown to 13 locations in Calgary and one in Airdrie, offering over 15 comprehensive interventional diagnostic and imaging services, and performing more than 600,000 consultations and studies annually.

With a proud history of unwavering, exceptional patient care, EFW has always remembered its local roots and community, and continues to give back.

“As part of a caring profession, we’ve always had it in our mission to give back to the community,”affirms Dr. David Lautner, managing partner at EFW Radiology.

Localizing community impact

For 55 years, philanthropic giving has been a core pillar for EFW. Each year, EFW partners with several local organizations to provide meaningful support. Since the ride began, EFW has supported the Tour Alberta for Cancer with team fundraising and medical sponsorship. Partnerships with student athletics such as University of Calgary Dinos, Mount Royal University Cougars and SAIT Trojans have been an important part of EFW’s giving philosophy, alongside other athletic organizations such as the Canadian Sport Institute, which helps provide more support towards breakthroughs in sports science.

EFW helps run programs for community counselling, youth engagement and financial wellness — creating a safe community space for those in need. Whether volunteering time to run fundraising events, offering high-quality imaging services or sponsoring new initiatives, EFW’s contributions to community are felt throughout the city.

In September 2023, EFW launched its Community Impact Fund, which provides resources for its employees to champion grassroots causes within their neighbourhoods. Since its inception, the fund has helped build the new Dalhousie School playground, support the Jasper wildfire relief efforts, and provided local, not-for-profit staff and volunteers with essential supplies.

Advancing knowledge and raising awareness

Experts in subspecialties such as MRI, spine and pain management, liver imaging and pediatric ultrasound make up the team behind EFW Radiology. While their expertise ensures exceptional patient care, EFW also believes in sharing that knowledge. Promoting awareness of health issues, new diagnostics and treatment options further removes barriers to accessing care and understanding the available support.

One such initiative is EFW’s breast cancer screening awareness campaign, which provides education and resources to ensure the public and community healthcare providers understand when and how to get screened for breast cancer, including pathways for women aged 45 and over to self-refer. EFW also supports the next generation of healthcare providers by offering complimentary continuing education sessions for healthcare professionals and partnering with Mount Royal University, SAIT and the University of Calgary to support the training of medical students.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to make a difference and to partner with so many dedicated individuals and organizations. Together, we are creating a ripple effect of compassion and positive change,” says Jackie Simonelli, CEO at EFW Radiology.

Where People and Ideas Come Together

The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre continues to help build a stronger Calgary with 50 years of meaningful impact.

In the 1960s, there were dreams and discussions of creating a connected convention centre in Calgary. Today, the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre (CTCC) has exceeded those initial hopes and has become a gathering place where communities have important conversations, generate ideas and indulge in cultural entertainment. With a 50-year reputation of hosting influential moments and experiences, the CTCC has been a venue for impactful change in Calgary and beyond.

Milestone moments

In 1974, the CTCC became Canada’s first purpose-built convention centre with an attached hotel and museum, and it didn’t take long before the calibre of its impact made headlines. Five years after it opened its doors, the CTCC hosted Canada’s most successful charitable dinner at the time. The “Million Dollar Dinner” had a ticket price of $1,000, in support of Calgary Foundation. The event raised over $2 million for Calgary Foundation — an impressive equivalent to over $8 million dollars in today’s values. The CTCC hit the ground running, and its momentum has not slowed.

The CTCC has welcomed various influential figures, from the Dalai Lama, the Clintons and George W. Bush to David Suzuki, King Charles and Arnold Schwarzenegger, to name a few. Big names and globally recognized events aside, the CTCC also plays host to more than 175,000 everyday people with bold visions and world-changing ideas annually to collaborate and bring innovative and impactful ideas to life.

Perhaps one of the greatest examples of people coming together at the CTCC was during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the CTCC served as a homeless shelter for 300 people, and in 2021, it was Alberta’s largest COVID-19 vaccination site, with over 400,000 immunizations taking place there.

“At the CTCC, we are a place of possibilities where a single conversation can ignite ideas that ripple out across our community, creating an impactful effect,” says president and CEO Kurby Court. “When we collaborate with our city, civic and community partners, as well as local businesses, we are supporting the connections that enhance the quality of life and have a lasting reach on Calgary’s diverse and vibrant communities.”

A connector for all

Centrally located, the CTCC is steps away from internationally recognized hotels, top-rated restaurants and a variety of shopping options. The convention centre serves as a gateway to the best of the city.

“With our location in the heart of downtown Calgary, we are a place to connect, innovate and inspire. For over 50 years, we have been a gathering place for Calgarians and guests from around the world to create meaningful connections, and as a community leader, our impact reaches well beyond our walls when we collaborate and connect with diverse perspectives and people from around the world,” says Court.

In 2023, the CTCC successfully hosted 226 events, resulting in $110.2 million in economic impact. Beyond dollars, the CTCC is also a centre of opportunity, where even small connections can spark world-changing ideas and where people can get connected and enriched so they can return to their own communities equipped to do better.

Enriching Communities with Open Hearts

Trico Homes strengthens a southwest community with a symbol of unity created by Jane Seymour.

In the southwest community of Kingsland Junction stands an eye-catching sculpture by renowned actress and artist Jane Seymour. Open Heart, a heart-shaped bronze sculpture finished in striking burgundy lacquer, was unveiled this past June. The heart is open on one end, designed to remind us that love and an open heart can carry us through difficult times.

Trico Homes commissioned the sculpture as part of its ongoing commitment to foster empathy, compassion and well-being through its communities. Located next to Trico LivingWell, a senior retirement community, Open Heart is more than a piece of artwork; it’s a message to say we all have the capacity to open our hearts and minds, and connect with friends, family and fellow community members.

Seymour emphasizes the tactile qualities the piece offers. “What’s lovely about a sculpture is when you go and visit, you touch it, sit on it, lean against it, and you’re there with your grandchildren. It’s a message that’s easily passed on,” says Seymour. “It’s a generational experience.”

With this sculpture, Trico reaffirms its commitment to not just building homes, but creating communities and spaces that foster kindness and connection. Kingsland Junction and Open Heart embody that inclusiveness, inviting all to engage and contribute to the vibrancy of the Kingsland community.

“Trico is not just doing a service for its residents, but to the community and actually the world at large,” says Seymour. “When people see something like this in a public place, they’ll go, ‘What’s that?’ and it sparks a meaningful conversation.”

Hope is in your hands to create a better Calgary

Calgary’s first garden-to-table community nourishes residents and fosters social connections through unique community designs.

“The face of poverty in Calgary is changing. It’s no longer an issue confined to certain neighbourhoods or demographics. Today, it can be a neighbour, a co-worker or a family down the street struggling to put food on the table,” says Karen Young, president and CEO, United Way of Calgary and Area.

Right now, one in four Calgarians is not able to meet their basic needs like food, rent or utilities. This impacts more than our wallets: it affects our mental health, relationships and ability to participate in the community. These challenges can sometimes feel insurmountable. But united, we can create short- and long-term solutions to improve lives across our city.

Hope is in your hands is about the power we have — as individuals and as a collective — to address the complex issues facing our city. When you extend a helping hand, you are driving change.

Anyone can make a difference. By making a gift of any amount to United Way’s Community Impact Fund, you create a ripple of change that touches lives across our community. Last year, United Way of Calgary and Area helped more than 223,000 people across our city and surrounding area. We partnered with 134 agencies and harnessed the inspirational power of more than 15,000 volunteers to drive change and spread hope throughout the communities where we live, work and play.

Hope is in your hands this giving season to make a real impact in our community. United, we can build a future where every Calgarian has the opportunity to succeed. The journey begins with you, and it starts today.

Join the movement. Give today: hope.uwca.cahope.uwca.ca

Esker Park: A Community Sculpted for All Life’s Stages

Calgary’s upcoming new northwest community, designed and developed by Shane Communities, will feature homes for all kinds of living.

In a sense, Esker Park, a new community designed and developed by Shane Communities, has been 22,000 years in the making.

While the official vision for the community began in 2009, the name “Esker” symbolizes the natural, winding ridges that have been sculpted over thousands of years by glaciers. Esker Park, appropriately enough, will be built on glacier-sculpted land in northwest Calgary, directly east of Glacier Ridge. The new community honours its namesake with a layout interwoven with winding streets, green spaces and eco-friendly elements. The “Park” in its name, represents a focal point of the community where residents can gather for a sense of belonging.

“Esker Park is perfect for those who prioritize sustainability, community and quality living,” says Melanie Gowans, vice-president of sales, marketing and interior design with Shane Homes Group of Companies. “With its prime location, variety of home styles and abundant nearby amenities, it sets a new standard for urban living in Calgary.”

An array of homes to choose from

Groundbreaking took place on April 19, 2024, setting the stage for what will soon be 220 acres of developed land for the Esker Park community. The first show homes will open in the spring of 2025, and presales for the exclusive Shane Homes will begin in the fall of 2024. Future residents will have a choice of a diverse range of home styles, including single-family front garage homes, laned homes, paired homes and townhouses.

Whether taking the kids to the playgrounds, walking the dog to the park with your partner or jogging or strolling on the many walking trails crisscrossing the community, Esker Park is built to accommodate all stages of life. “Esker Park is perfect for those seeking a vibrant, inclusive community with ample amenities and natural surroundings,” affirms Gowans. “It’s designed for families, young professionals and retirees looking to set down roots in a welcoming environment.”

For community events, residents can come together to the centrally located outdoor park space for gatherings and connection.

Surrounding the community are top-rated schools, shopping centres, dining options and medical facilities. Convenient access to both major roads and public transit makes commuting around the city and to nearby natural attractions a breeze. Esker Park provides homes for every type of family and can grow with them as they change over time.

“The location offers an ease of living, making it a place where people can build their lives and enjoy them for years to come,” affirms Brenden Montgomery, vice president of land development at Shane Homes Group of Companies.

Nature and Lifestyle Intersect in Logan Landing

Enjoy quiet living within natural landscapes in the newest community along the Bow River.

In southeast Calgary, residents of Logan Landing will walk along pathways, take in views of the valley, spend time by the Bow River and embrace the natural amenities that make the community an outdoor enthusiast’s dream.

Explore what nature has to offer, and enjoy peaceful living without sacrificing urban amenities. You’ll find everything you need for quality living in Logan Landing.

Connect with nature

Located along the Bow River and envisioned with respect to its natural features, Logan Landing offers a unique topography that deepens the connection with nature’s landscape. With various outdoor amenities, the community provides dedicated spaces to get outside and lead an active lifestyle.

A quick walk away, community members can find themselves at the edge of the Bow River, where they can enjoy the sounds of rushing water, go fishing, take up bird watching, or hop aboard a raft and float down the river. The proximity of the Bow is the community jewel, but it doesn’t end there. Logan Landing will feature over eight kilometres of pathways where residents can walk, run or bike. These pathways encourage exploration beyond the community allowing residents easy access to Cranston and even all the way to Calgary’s downtown core.

Over 115 acres of the community will be dedicated to an environmental reserve, and residents will enjoy over 24 acres of open space designated for a school, eight parks with a variety of playgrounds, as well as a six-and-a-half-acre stormwater pond. Plus, Logan Landing boasts incredible views of Calgary’s natural setting including views of the Rocky Mountains.

“The most scenic viewpoints overlooking the escarpment and the valley were purposely preserved and included in our open space network. The pathways, as well as some of the key parts of the community, are going to be perched on some of the best views,” says Peter Jensen, senior development manager for Logan Landing.

Sustainability and preservation

Genesis Land, the community’s developer, designed Logan Landing with a focus on preserving the surrounding natural environment — after all, it’s what makes the community so special. It’s a sanctuary to the migratory nesting site of Great Blue Herons and has been designed to protect the native species in the area.

As part of the harmonious connection between the natural landscape and an idyllic living design, the community has three distinct neighbourhood zones, each offering unique views, landscapes and housing options. The Ridge is the upper area of the community nestled in a prairie landscape. The Bench is a terraced area overlooking the river valley and mountains with stunning views. The Valley is tucked in near the river, where you’ll find tranquility among native plants and grasses.

Genesis also ensures sustainability features can be easily integrated in its homes. Residents can expect access to green technology and renewable energy with rough-ins for electric vehicle chargers and solar panels in their homes. The community’s homes offer a variety of styles including craftsman, prairie, farmhouse and modern tudor styles, to suit many tastes.

Logan Landing is close to restaurants, shops and businesses, and is only a 25-minute drive from the city centre. Logan Landing is where you’ll find the intersection of peaceful living and a vibrant, urban lifestyle.

Mission Landing and The Nines: Quality Rental Living Awaits

OPUS Corporation brings its unique advantage and talent to create two new residential rental buildings for Calgarians to call home.

With building projects around Canada, OPUS Corporation has been a real estate industry pioneer for over 40 years. OPUS has distinguished itself by providing completely integrated services such as construction and project management, development, property management, leasing and marketing, and providing these services to residential, medical and retail buildings, offices and light industrial projects. The team behind OPUS advises and assists owners and investors of each project from the beginning to the end and beyond.

OPUS’s latest developments, Mission Landing and The Nines, will be its first projects developed for residential rental use. “We take great pride in making the city a better place, and I believe that our two new buildings will help to improve Calgary,” says Hannes Kovac, president and CEO of OPUS Corporation.

Mission Landing

The first of OPUS’s mixed-use residential buildings, located on the corner of Mission Road and Macleod Trail S.W., minutes from the Mission district, will be completed at the end of 2024. The six-storey building features 70 one- and two-bedroom units with spacious balconies that effortlessly combine intelligent design with eye-catching architecture and functional living areas. All tenants have access to the building’s rooftop patio, which has a dog walk, sun deck and a barbecue area. In addition, residents can take advantage of retail and personal service amenities on the main floor of the building. Mission Landing is ideal for those keen for downtown access, but not keen on living in the core.

The Nines

This six-storey development, slated for completion in late 2025, will be situated at the intersection of Elbow Drive and Southland Drive S.W. It will feature 86 suites with one or two bedrooms. The Nines boasts a rooftop patio with panoramic views of the mountains and Glenmore Reservoir. The main floor will be dedicated to retail spanning 13,500 square feet. Residents can take advantage of fitness, health and wellness services, coffee shops, restaurants for breakfast and lunch and much more. The Nines offers an inviting environment for established residents to settle down and enjoy the nearby parks and community centres. Its proximity to public transit makes commuting a breeze.

The OPUS advantage

Top-notch smart technology and security systems are outfitted in both Mission Landing and The Nines. Tenants can access the building via an app and use elevators or send QR codes to provide their guests and delivery services access. These security features, explains Kovac, ensure that no one can simply walk into the building. The app also provides easy communication between tenants and property managers and is a convenient way to set up rent payments without missing deadlines or making service requests.

“By bringing our advantage to these buildings, we can maximize convenience and minimize incidents or frustrations for our tenants,” affirms Kovac. “When our tenants come home, they can feel safe, relax, and leave the hustle and bustle of the day behind.”

Fireside’s new central park features over five acres of green space with a state-of-the-art playground, a pump track, a picnic area, and, during winter, a toboggan hill and fire pits to keep warm.

“We are in love with the new central park,” says Azuaje. “There are so many activities for kids, and it’s becoming a gathering hub for the entire community. We hosted our Fireside Stampede breakfast there for the first time this year, and seeing 2,200 people come through felt truly rewarding.”

Happiness is Homegrown in Rangeview

Calgary’s first garden-to-table community nourishes residents and fosters social connections through unique community designs.

Good things grow in Rangeview, an amenity-rich neighbourhood designed to rekindle an old-fashioned sense of community spirit. Every element of Calgary’s first garden-to-table community is thoughtfully designed to foster social connection, embrace the values of healthy living and boost community spirit. At Rangeview, it’s about getting to know your neighbours, building meaningful relationships and enjoying life together.

“Just as small-town Alberta communities have always been made stronger by the connections between neighbours and families, Rangeview will truly come alive when residents of every generation gather to learn, share and cultivate a vibrant way of life,” says Sarah Fehr, marketing team lead at Section23 Developments.

In this southeast neighbourhood, community gardens, greenhouses, orchards and farmer’s markets invite residents to gather over shared celebrations of food grown locally.

Celebrating garden-to-table food

Section23 Developments, the community’s developer, built Rangeview on agricultural urbanist principles, which led to the integration of local food planting, growing and harvesting into the community’s design and programming.

“As food is intrinsically connected with the social and cultural fabric of communities, the celebration of food is used to build lasting relationships between neighbours and provide residents with both fresh food and opportunities for community engagement, education and skill development,” says Fehr.

Residents can learn to garden through the demonstration gardens, share a hobby with a neighbour in the community gardens or enjoy the fruits of their labour with weekly produce pickups at the community greenhouse in the summer months. Orchards will feature fruit- and nut-bearing trees, and greenhouses will make year-round fresh and local produce possible.

The celebrations go beyond the gardens, too. Rangeview will host farmer’s markets, educational programs, cooking classes and food festivals for residents to build skills and create memories together.

Beyond food

Aside from food-focused initiatives, Rangeview offers plenty of other opportunities to gather. The community has over 60 acres allocated to open spaces for parks, playgrounds and sports fields. Plus, the Market Square, a community hub, will host markets and festivals, and the Harvest Hall will host both public programs and private events.

With its small-town feel, Rangeview amenities are within walking distance, with everything you need nearby. Ten acres of the community are dedicated to the Urban Village, where boutiques, shops and businesses will service the community and embrace healthy living.

Homes to suit all available now

Current home offerings in Rangeview include street townhomes, laned homes, front garage homes and semi-detached homes built by award-winning builders Baywest Homes, Daytona Homes, Homes by Avi, Hopewell Residential and Jayman BUILT.

Playgrounds, greenhouses, pathways and homes are open and available now, but more Rangeview plans are still underway. It will be a 320-acre community, ultimately serving nearly 10,000 like-minded residents at completion.

Visit any of Rangeview’s 10 show homes to see how you can plant your roots in this unique community.

The personalization aspect allows future residents to truly make their townhome theirs. The remaining buildings will be released at various intervals throughout 2024 and into 2025.

Park Place offers a diverse selection of eight different floor plans, all named after fine wines including Moscato, Prosecco, Chardonnay, Merlot, Malbec, Pinot, Shiraz and Cabernet. Just as there is a wine for everyone, there is a floor plan for every resident to choose from. Residents can choose street-facing or park-facing townhomes ranging from 1,380 to 1,742 square feet with two to three bedrooms and flex spaces, two-and-a-half bathrooms, and tandem or double-car garage options. This variety ensures that every resident’s needs and preferences are catered to.

Community moments in Central Green

From the air, Central Green looks reminiscent of Central Park in New York City. On the ground, it has that same urban park appeal. It spans a sprawling 13 acres of green space, complete with tennis courts and pickleball to stay active, a community garden and an amphitheatre that will be a popular gathering space for neighbourhood events. The green space is owned and developed by Hopewell Residential, the same developers behind the rest of Mahogany. Central Green is in its final development stages, with the eastern section of the project expected to finish in 2024.

As a focal point of Mahogany, which offers four-season living and abundant natural space, Central Green provides personalized living and a community space so every resident can enjoy relaxed and luxurious living at Park Place.

Urban Living in Harmony with Nature in Glacier Ridge

The new northwest community features top amenities in natural surroundings.

Positioned in highly sought-after Northwest Calgary, this new community is surrounded by rolling plains and coulees, sculpted by glaciers and rivers from the past, giving residents elegant views from connected pathways. Nature is woven into the community’s best-in-class amenities, from its fox-themed playground to its future residents association village offering a myriad of outdoor activities such as tobogganing and tennis.

Natural living and complementary amenities make it clear why Glacier Ridge is Calgary’s top-selling community this year.

Surround yourself with nature

“Glacier Ridge promotes a healthy, family-focused lifestyle, with access to ample amenities in the community and nearby,” says Brady Morrice, director of land development for Anthem, Glacier Ridge’s developer.

The community launched in 2022 with its first nature-themed playground; at its centre stands a bold fox-shaped structure for kids to ascend. In 2023, another playground in the community was completed, featuring bird and mountain shaped elements, reminding residents of the beautiful Albertan landscape that surrounds them. Families can immerse themselves even further into the natural world by exploring 10 kilometres of trails within the community.

The Village, Glacier Ridge’s future residents association, will offer residents access to a private facility to gather as families and a community. The Village, planned for a winter 2026 opening, offers gated indoor and outdoor spaces, which will include a spray park, sports courts, a toboggan hill and more.

Experience Glacier Ridge by visiting a show home or exploring the community at glacierridgecalgary.ca.

Goldwyn: In Harmony with Nature

This beautiful prairie estate community north of Calgary provides all the amenities of city living while being nature’s retreat.

Goldwyn, a serene community of prairie estates nestled in Rockyview County, offers all the conveniences of the big city only minutes away, but enjoys the peaceful seclusion of rural living. Surrounded by rustic beauty, Goldwyn is aptly named to honour the area’s golden wheat fields and breathtaking sunsets, enhancing the tranquil lifestyle on offer.

Melcor Developments has owned the land for decades, dating back to the 1970s. Now, as Goldwyn settles into the land, its development will be in the trusted hands of seven skilled and talented local builders.

“Goldwyn will accommodate the best of both worlds — urban servicing, densities and amenities with a rural feel including ample open space, dark skies and larger lots,” says Erin Cripps, sales and marketing coordinator at Melcor.

Designed with many natural features to complement its surroundings, Goldwyn focuses attention on a distinctive network of pathways that aligns with the land’s natural topography and enhances the charm of discovering each route. Each trail respects the greenery that grows naturally, and the new landscape follows the same approach, with drought-tolerant plants placed in higher elevations, while native trees and shrubs can be found at lower elevations and closer to water.

The community also has a number of ponds, creeks and wetlands that are home to a wide variety of wildlife and a planned nature-inspired playground. Complete with scenic views of the Rocky Mountains in the distance, and stunningly vivid prairie-sky sunsets in a rural setting, Goldwyn truly fosters a sense of harmony among residents and with the land.

Now’s the time to experience new adventures, whether it’s heading east to Rosebud for a live theatre getaway, west to Sunshine Village in Banff for an alpine voyage, north to Saddle Hills County for a lakeside escape or stay closer to home with a day trip to explore the vibrant community of Montgomery.
Take a day or three to see what fun the open road holds — the beauty of a road trip is you can set your own pace and stop if something strikes your fancy. Read on to plan your next merry excursion.

A Day Trip to Montgomery

Be a tourist in your own city.

You might be thinking of packing up the car, hitting the Trans Canada Highway and photobombing tourist attractions while surviving on gas station snacks and questionable coffee.

While there’s appeal to roadtripping, there’s the hidden gem of Montgomery without needing to leave the city. Once a village in its own right, Montgomery joined the City of Calgary in 1963 connecting the communities of Parkdale and Bowness. Over the years, the vibrant community has seen many businesses and activities pop up.

Leave your overnight bag at home, grab a friend and plan your next road trip to Montgomery where you can fill up on family events, date nights, delicious meals, coffees and bubble teas.  Whether you’re looking for a relaxing spa day with some retail therapy, a weekend to indulge in tasty eats or an outdoor getaway to enjoy nature’s offerings, you’ll find it all in Montgomery.

Fuel up

Get your caffeine fix with a decadent latte at Fringe Coffee or grab a bubble tea from Sue at VitaminBoba.

For an unbeatable brunch, NOtaBLE offers breakfast options on weekends. Choose from classics like eggs Benedict and sourdough French toast or try something new like the pulled pork breakfast pizza.

Get outside — with the dogs, kids or on a date

Shouldice, Edworthy or Montalban — three great off-leash parks that let you tire out your four-legged friends. After your pup’s big walk or swim, grab a treat from Bon A-Pet-Treat! Pet Store & Bakery, then treat yourself with a chocolate-dipped cone from Dairy Queen.

The Shouldice Park Playground, an all-inclusive park with tons of swings, bouncing and ramp areas, lets your kids burn off energy. Follow that up with a picnic in the park with donairs from My Donair or Shawarma Palace. Or try a chicken or beef satay sub from Lily Vietnamese Submarines or swing by Five Spice Kitchen for a range of Asian cuisine offerings. Watch for Deng’s Dumplings newest location opening soon, too.

Float the Bow with friends or family. Rent a raft from Sports Rent and flow with the river. Prefer to stay on land? Rent a bike or rollerblades (Alien In-Line offers classes if you’re new to blading), or play a friendly game of volleyball, bocce ball or tug of war.

After working up an appetite, grab a bite at Papa Nikolas Pizza for homemade tomato sauce and fresh crust made in-house daily. Or go to Pizza 3000 and create your own pizza with up to five toppings.

For a tried-and-true taste experience, check out the Wiener Schnitzel Haus. This family-owned staple has been serving Calgarians authentic Austrian dining experiences for years. Choose a starter, like the raclette for two, or a dessert. Or treat yourself to both — you’re on an adventure.

Massage and retail therapy

Spend the afternoon browsing an array of local shops. Find sustainable bath, body and home products at Greenbriar Market + Refillery and get thrifting for a new outfit at Curvy Britches. Plus, Montgomery features a variety of beauty and wellness services so you can relax with a massage from Montgomery Wellness, mani/pedi from Cactus nails or get the latest style, cut and colour at ThairAPY.  Take some fresh flowers home to commemorate the day from Allan’s Flowers. And for a fun and unique experience, craft your own wine at Wine Kitz.

Enjoy a nightcap

Wrap up a great day with a refreshing pint of beer at Rising Tides Taproom for a large selection of local beers and house-crafted cocktails. If you’re still hungry, enjoy a taco or two there, too.

Or splurge with a scoop or three of ice cream or a tasty banana split from the original location of Abbey’s Creations.

So many fun experiences packed into this community waiting for you to discover.

The Mountains Are Calling

Swap your skis for hiking boots this summer at Sunshine Meadows.

When the snow melts and the flowers bloom, Sunshine Village packs up the skis and snowboards, but its doors remain open. Hop aboard Banff’s biggest gondola and experience what summer at 7,000 feet in Sunshine Village looks like.

Sneak peek at what’s new in the peaks

This past May, Sunshine bid farewell to its Angel Express lift, the first high-speed quad in the Canadian Rockies. Since 1988, Angel Express had been flying people up a vertical rise of 1,244 feet in just over five minutes.

This summer, visitors can watch as crews work on the new Super Angel luxury lift, set to be up and running in November 2024. The Super Angel is sure to wow skiers and snowboarders, and like its predecessor, transform Sunshine and take it into its next chapter.

Take in incredible summer mountain vistas

Ride the Standish Chairlift to over 8,000 feet and enjoy mountain views like no other. This kind of elevation offers 360-degree views of the Canadian Rockies, and Standish is the only chairlift with sightseeing access to three alpine lakes.

Hike among the greenery and wildflowers on hosted trail walks through Sunshine Meadows — accessible for mountain lovers of all abilities. Breathe in the fresh alpine air, enjoy the serenity of the mountains and learn about the surrounding peaks, wildlife and history from your guide or at the Sunshine Meadows Interpretive Center.

On the Standish Viewing Deck, enjoy more phenomenal views before turning in for the night at Sunshine’s mountain-top hotel. Spend a relaxing night in luxury at Sunshine Mountain Lodge, under a clear sky full of stars.

Find rejuvenation among the mountain tops, and enjoy nature’s best at Sunshine Meadows.

Into the Wilderness

Explore the beauty of nature at one of Saddle Hills County’s lakes or on the majestic Peace River.

Eight hours north of Calgary, serene lakes glisten in the sun and the historic Peace River flows through the vast land of Saddle Hills County. The peaceful region offers a retreat to the great outdoors for a restorative road trip.

Backyard wilderness

Part of the magic of Saddle Hills County is its all-encompassing natural beauty. Everywhere you look, you’ll see lush forestry, vast plains with golden fields, prominent wildlife and tranquil lakes and rivers.

The county’s off-the-beaten-path location makes for a secluded wilderness oasis well worth a visit. Hike among the forest trails and spot birds and animals, go for a swim, fish and take in a Saddle Hills sunset — a Peace Country treasure.

“There is no end to the beautiful and captivating sunsets that Saddle Hills County and the Peace region treat us to. Almost every evening, we get to witness a spectacular sunset,” says resident Jo Ann Edey.

A boatload of lakes

With Calgary being a landlocked city, Calgarians often long for time near water. Saddle Hills boasts several beautiful lakes and rivers, and there’s no shortage of activities to enjoy them.

“The entire county is a beautiful wilderness that allows for so many outdoor activities,” says resident Dustin Goodheart.

Try your hand at fishing at the Shell True North Pond, wander down to the banks of the Peace River and find the secluded waterfall at Cotillion, or spend the night camping adjacent to Spring or Hilltop Lake.
